Is the Cloud Really Less Secure than On-Site Storage?

There are many businesses that have resisted switching over to the cloud due to the fact that they have been told it is far less secure than many of the other options out there. Admittedly that could be true to an extent but it ultimately depends on the cloud supplier that is being discussed. Today we’re going to go over a few important factors that play into the efficiency of the cloud which you should absolutely, positively be taking into account once you finish information technology school.

The Cloud Has Stronger Perimeters and Better Surveillance

Information TechnologyHere’s a fun fact: legacy systems are very unreliable and they are notoriously difficult to implement. These systems include, of course, the terminal workstation and browser. As you might know, these devices and systems were implemented long before computer crimes were a serious concern. That said, they might have been enough to stop hackers back in the day, but now, legacy systems are much more vulnerable. That said, in larger offices, cloud security is going to be more than necessary. Remember, in the larger, high-rise offices, the greatest defense between all of the files and user information is a locked door. There is nothing worse than on-site security, especially if it is breached.

Access Control is Key

With data stored off-site, vendors, employees, and visitors are literally separated from any data that a company might consider to be mission critical. This limited access and lack of physical access for that matter are going to make it considerably harder for anyone in the building to come across the data and use it in a negative matter. In other words, the cloud decreases risk.

Expertise is Everything

When a company is attempting to protect data, it wants one very important thing: an expert server manager. While your own co-workers might be skilled, the question remains: are they skilled enough to keep a computer system protected? Are they skilled enough to make sure your information never falls into the wrong hands? It’s a bit of a stretch, and this s why outsourcing is becoming the preferred method of protection. By making use of the cloud, a company will immediately gain access to the best data centers and the most skilled employees that the industry has to offer. It can have a high price tag, but it would be much higher if you were to attempt to do these things on your own.

Constant Auditing of Data

Professional cloud hosting companies will be able to provide top-of-the-line security but they will also be able to ensure that you have the most up-to-date systems hosting your files, and of course that the data continues to be safe. There is no such thing as a perfect system, but constant checks of that system will help to ensure that you aren’t dealing with outdated systems and that your data will continue to be safe years down the road. You can already see how beneficial this will be.

The Cloud is the Future

As you have already been able to discern from reading this article, the cloud truly is the future. Businesses will come to depend on it in the future, and as an IT professional, it may become your job to properly administrate it. For more information and to really get your career underway, now would be a great time for you to call us and get ready to attend information technology school. It won’t be too long before you’re ready to make a difference and most importantly, keep the world of information protected.
