Automation Controls Technician

Those who work in these positions install, repair, and maintain electrical components of industrial equipment, machinery, and devices. You may work as a team member or alone to complete the tasks and projects. Technicians also provide these services to their employers:

  • Automation and Electronic SystemsPerform quality testing, inspections, and diagnostics on equipment
  • Work with variable frequency drives, general drives, and controls
  • Assist with the installation of electrical equipment, wiring systems, and electrical components
  • Meet electrical codes and observe safety procedures
  • Make and report automation control decisions

  • Provide ideas on improving equipment, machinery, and production activities 
  • Work with the quality control and research and development departments

Automation Technician/Mechanic

Automaton Technicians work as mechanics and maintenance techs to support plants and their automation equipment. Their basic responsibilities include supporting the production plan and improving the processes and performances. In this position, you will conduct routine machine maintenance functions, such as cleaning, checking, and testing equipment. You will also:

  • Work to maximize equipment availability and minimize downtime
  • Work in a high-volume light manufacturing or production environment
  • Repair, overhaul, maintain, and install new equipment
  • Be able to operate lathes, mills, grinders, sanders, power tools, and hand tools to determine their functionality
  • Improve and modify equipment and maintain equipment logs
  • Work on special projects as they arise
  • Comply with OSHA guidelines and practice the best safety procedures
  • Generate necessary reports and communicate them to supervisors

Home Automation and Electronic Security

The electro- mechanical technicians test, operate, and maintain automated, unmanned, electromechanical and robotic equipment. Home Automation and Electronic Security Technicians install, customize, and repair residential home control and security systems and their components. Typical duties of this job include:

  • Work with smart home equipment
  • Understand how the equipment controls lighting, heating, and cooling
  • Know how to set controls to monitor homes in many ways
  • Connect systems to internet networks
  • Test network and automation equipment
  • Show homeowners and business owners how to use systems.
