Process technology is the means whereby manufacturing and processing facilities monitor and control the production of their products. Process technicians oversee many functions from sorting raw materials to inspecting finished goods to ensure their quality.
Process Technicians (PTechs) work in a specialized branch of engineering that deals with designing and constructing equipment for biological, chemical, mechanical, and physical processes. They are also responsible for helping to ensure each system component works correctly to reach desired outcomes.
Technicians work with many variables to help generate quality and safe products, including:
- Electronics and mathematics
- Industrial pump and turbine applications
- Pressure, level, temperature, and flow
- Hydraulics, analytical devices, and valves
- Final control elements and basic documentation
- Process control theory
By incorporating these variables in manufacturing and processing, technicians assist with producing many common products we use almost daily.
Most of us depend on some forms of electronic devices to carry out our daily activities. We have gotten so used to them we cannot imagine living without them. Process technicians oversee their production under the supervision of engineers and production managers. They include:
- Desktop computers, laptops, Ipad Tablets
- Phones, home-security systems
- Televisions, radios, head-sets
- MP3 players, video recorders
- Printers, washing machines, clothes dryers
- Digital cameras, robot vacuum cleaners
We can be thankful for the quality and durability of these devices for our daily personal and business use.
Clothes, shoes, hats, and textiles are all created in factories under the supervision of production workers and process technicians. We shop for these items in stores and online without thinking about how they are made. They go from thread to material to cut out, sewn, and finished goods in factories throughout the world.
Foods and Beverages We All Love
What are your favorite foods and beverages? If you purchase them in stores rather than growing or making them yourself, you know they are made in food and drink processing plants.
Whether domestic or imported products, we enjoy them continually to satisfy our hunger, thirst, and personal choices.
Both the foods and their packaging are created on assembly lines where process technicians participate in ensuring their purity, safety, quality, and desired taste.
We Can’t Do Without Automobiles
You know how much we rely on our cars and trucks whether they are powered by gasoline, diesel, batteries, or hybrid technology. Virtually every part of them is created in a production and processing system.
Process technicians play a significant role in generating automobiles because our safety and lives are at stake every time we sit behind the wheel. Great care must be taken by skilled people to ensure every component in autos is in sync with each other.

Oil and Gasoline Fuel our Cars and Trucks
Although fossil fuel is a controversial topic now, the majority of cars and trucks still use gasoline and oil. Other everyday products use oil and gas, including:
- Lawnmowers, weed trimmers, and leaf blowers
- Generators, chain saws, and garden tillers
- Motor homes, 4-wheelers, and travel trailers
- Farm tractors and sawmills
All these great products are created by production and processing in an array of facilities, and process technicians play a role in all of them.
Health and Beauty Aids Help Keep Us Going
Vitamins, minerals, shampoo, shaving cream, mascara, lipstick are all items we purchase at pharmacies and supermarkets. The brands, variations, and sizes of these and thousands of other health and beauty aids are mass-produced for U.S. and international markets. They all help us keep going in one way or another.
The Most Important: Clean Water
Although clean water is last on this list, it is the most important of all the items. Good, clean water is becoming scarce in many states, and we can be thankful for those companies that process pure drinking and distilled water. We regularly receive the benefits of local water treatment plants,waste-water treatment facilities, and stores that sell drinking water.
All these products are made possible by modern manufacturing and processing factories and plants. Process Technicians play significant roles in maintaining the equipment and the processing that goes into them.
