Many people think of AI as robots and robotic work in factories but it is much more. Artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and deep learning are all interconnected.
- Artificial Intelligence means creating devices and machines that can think like humans. They can do “smart” things such as process large amounts of data, recognize patterns, make decisions, and judge people. AI is used for image recognition and classification, making predictions, and making your morning coffee.
- Machine Learning is a subset of AI and is used to program computers to learn and act as humans do. A computer is given input data and an algorithm to produce an output. A computer can learn the algorithm itself when it is given input data and corresponding output data and can predict the right output data.
- Deep Learning processes, interprets and uses much larger and more complex data sets. Since it is a subset of machine learning, it can perform far more complex tasks. Deep learning mimics the workings of our brains by processing data through multiple layers. With extensive training, neural networks are created that can outperform us at intelligent tasks. While machine learning can ask and answer one question, deep learning can ask and answer one question, and based on the answer, can ask and answer another and answer it, and continue with more.
