Get the Facts About Industrial Maintenance

As you start to ponder your options regarding higher education, you’re more than likely wondering just what direction you should be taking. Completing instrumentation technology training and earning an Industrial Instrumentation Certificate is a great choice, but what does it involve? If you’ve decided to jump into industrial maintenance training, then you need to know what it’s about and what kind of work environment you can expect to be in once you finish your schooling.

What Does Industrial Maintenance Training Get You?

The first thing that we want to bring up here, is the pay. According to information the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) compiled from 2016, the median pay is $49,100 per year or $23.61 per hour. This is a great entry-level salary, and it far exceeds most minimum wage jobs. Also, note that the BLS’s website indicates the typical entry-level education requirement is simply a high school diploma or GED. That’s an awful big paycheck for such a small education requirement! You won’t even need to have any work experience in a related occupation which sets this skilled job apart from many others.

Job Outlook

There’s a pretty strong job outlook to look forward to. According to information the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) compiled from 2016, there were 476,100 jobs available. The field is expected to grow 7% through the year 2026, which is right around the national average. In other words, the field is growing slowly and steadily, giving you something to look forward to once you finish earning an Industrial Instrumentation Certificate.

What Will You Do?

Industrial Maintenance Training

As an industrial maintenance mechanic, you will have quite a few responsibilities. For example, you will constantly perform preventative maintenance to ensure that engines, motors, conveyor systems, production machines, and more, are safe from potential malfunctions later. In addition to that, you will be responsible for finding the source of problems in machines that preventive maintenance simply could not take care of.

Your job will also involve the dismantling of devices using a wide range of tools that include hoists, hand tools, cranes, power tools, and much more. To put it as simply as possible, you will become responsible for making sure that the plant or factory runs properly. It’s a lot to take on, and it is a challenge that you will need to be ready to meet.

As you step out into this field you will amass technical knowledge by reviewing publications, attending workshops, and speaking to others who have spent time in the field themselves. Finally, you will help to maintain a safe working environment by complying with laws and procedures.

There is a lot to be done and a lot to learn, but if you are up to the challenge, you will find that it is well worth your time.
