Reason 1: Improper Airflow
The first reason we’re going to explore is of improper airflow. The cold coil needs to be kept as warm as possible and this requires proper airflow. If the airflow is not satisfactory, the warm air from the house will not flow over the coil and it will freeze before the condensation can run off. The condensation is then frozen, and it creates the ‘ball of ice’ that you commonly see on air conditioning units.

In this case, the best knowledge that you can give them is to keep their airways unobstructed and their filters cleaned. Filters sit, obviously, at the front of the unit and can be replaced easily. Reason 2: Faulty Thermostats
A faulty thermostat will cause the home to be improperly cooled and will ultimately use a lot more electricity. This imbalance can definitely lead to frozen coils and will once again call for service.
How to Fix it: As with anything else in the world of HVAC, it is important for you to tell your customers not to fix these problems on their own. Sometimes, improperly functioning thermostats will have less to do with the thermostat unit itself and much more to do with the condition of the entire system.
